How to Make a Signature for Your Name

1. Start with your real name, then decide how much to keep

Most signatures are not the full name spelled out. They are a compressed version: a clear first initial, a suggestion of the rest, and a confident finish. Write your full name out normally first. 2. Pick a direction that matches your name

Long names suit flowing, connected cursive because the length carries the movement. Short names often look better with a bolder, more angular hand so they do not look sparse. 3. Build a strong first initial

The capital that opens your signature is the part people notice and remember. Give it room, a slightly larger scale, and one deliberate feature — a long entry stroke, a loop, or a crossbar that extends into the rest of the name. 4. Simplify the middle

The letters between your first initial and your finish do not need to be readable. Reduce them to a consistent up-and-down rhythm. This is what makes a signature quick to sign and difficult to forge — the shapes are personal muscle memory, not printed letters.

5. Add one flourish — no more
